FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BATON ROUGE, LA - Louisiana State Senator Stewart Cathey officially qualified as a candidate for the U.S. Congress in Louisiana’s Fifth Congressional District today.

Born and raised in Louisiana’s Fifth Congressional District, Stewart Cathey has dedicated his life to service — serving his country in the United States Army, including two deployments to Afghanistan, then returning home to build a small business and serve in the Louisiana Senate.

“I’m honored to officially qualify to run for Congress and ask for the opportunity to serve the people of Louisiana’s Fifth District,” said Stewart Cathey. “From wearing the uniform, to building a business, to serving in the Louisiana Senate, I’ve spent my career solving problems and fighting for the people I represent. In Congress, I’ll bring that same focus to lowering energy costs, reining in reckless spending, creating good-paying jobs, and building an economy that rewards hard work. Most importantly, I’ll make sure the people of Louisiana’s Fifth District have a seat at the table.”

About Stewart Cathey:

Stewart Cathey is a husband, father, Louisiana State Senator, U.S. Army combat veteran, and small businessman from Monroe, Louisiana.

A lifelong Louisianian, Cathey joined the U.S. Army in 2003 and served multiple deployments, including two tours in Afghanistan. Since returning home, Cathey has built a successful small business and continued serving his community through public service.

First elected to the Louisiana Senate in 2019, Cathey currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development, where he advocates for Louisiana’s farmers, rural communities, and working families. In the Louisiana Senate, he has fought to protect children, authored Louisiana’s toughest child sex trafficking law, and worked to ensure girls have a fair playing field in sports. He has also championed veterans’ access to the benefits and education they earned through their service.

Cathey remains committed to serving the people of Louisiana and fighting for the values that define the Fifth District. He and his wife Brittany are raising their daughter in Monroe, where they are active members of their community and worship at First West Church in West Monroe.
